Superintendent Encourages Public Input on Florida Standards Review

In efforts to “improve Florida’s education system”, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently eliminated Common Core, and issued Executive Order 19-32.  This order directs Florida’s Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran to comprehensively review the academic standards for Florida’s kindergarten through grade twelve students and provide recommended revisions to the Governor by January 1, 2020.

To do this, they want your input through an online platform called EdCredible®.  EdCredible® provides all stakeholders with open access to participate in the review process. Stakeholders are required to open an account using their valid email address before providing input on standards. The platform will initially list the current Florida K-12 English Language Arts and Mathematics standards individually.

“It’s always a good idea to look at current systems in place to see if there’s a better and more efficient process, especially when it comes to the success of our students,” says Superintendent Sam Himmel.  “No matter what, our teachers here in Citrus will continue to engage and challenge students to their fullest potential.  Once Commissioner Corcoran has had a chance to hear from all stakeholders, and present his plans to the Florida Legislatures, we will be ready to implement the new standards.  Our educators in Citrus County will always do what’s best for our students.”
