Meet our National Merit Scholars

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students, from all over the United States, enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)- a test which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year- and by meeting entry/participation requirements.

The top 2% are awarded Letters of Commendation in recognition of their superior academic promise. Citrus County had six students from Lecanto High School and Citrus High School receive this recognition: Anna Buettner, Vaishnavi Karanum, Elizabeth Lantzy, Christopher Nurse, Truman Roland, and Joshua Widener.

The top 1% qualify as National Merit Finalists and are eligible for National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. Citrus County has three students from Lecanto High School receive this outstanding honor: Arjun Deven, Kyra Hornbuckle, and Jason Sevilla.
