From Your School Family

It is hard to believe that we will start the last month of school next week.  This year has gone by so quickly.  I urge you to talk to your student and encourage him or her on how important this month is to get ready in preparation for next year.  Homework is important practice.  Reading nightly can benefit your child in making more than adequate progress.  Memorizing math facts can help your student be prepared for more difficult math.

Students who are in jeopardy of retention should have received a letter of possible retention.   It’s not too late to conference with your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress.  Please call the school and make an appointment to talk to your child’s teacher.

We have finished all of the FCAT 2.0 testing.  Students put forth great effort during the testing time.  Results will come back during our summer break.

Respectfully,

Edie Speight and the CRPS Staff

Student Behavior Expectations

Do you know that we expect students to be responsible for their behavior?  Do you know that student misbehavior interferes with your student’s learning and with teacher instruction?  Children who misbehave often miss major concepts and fall behind other children academically in the classroom.  We encourage students to behave well through our Positive Behavior System (PBS) program.  Students who behave well have opportunities to receive “I Did It” stickers for being respectful, responsible, or safe.  Teachers have some wonderful activities planned during the last month of school.  Misbehavior can take away the privilege of participating in fun activities, as well as disrupt classroom instruction and learning.  This is a good time for parents to review the Student Code of Conduct and good behavior expectations with their children.

2011-2012 School Hours

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

During the week of May 6th we recognize all the wonderful staff members at Crystal River Primary.  The entire staff is included because we work as a team for the benefit of all students.  PTO and SAEC will also honor the staff.  Students are welcome to join in and honor their teachers during this week.

Kindergarten Round-Up – May 3, 2012

Crystal River Primary will hold a Kindergarten Round Up for next school year on Thursday, May 3rd from 4:00 to 6:00 pm for children who will be age 5 by September 1, 2012. Please bring proof of residency (electric, phone, cable, etc.), the child’s immunization card, evidence of a health physical exam that is less than one year old, birth certificate, and social security card to register your child.  If you do not have these items with you, please continue to work on getting them because these records are required for your child to attend his/her first day of school. You can still come and fill out the other required paperwork on May 3.

Kindergarten Orientation – Thursday, May 10

9:15 – 11:15 AM

Students who will start kindergarten in the fall will have the opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom, have lunch in the school cafeteria, and ride a school bus.  This is a chance for your child to get acquainted with the school day.

The Elementary Student Progression Plan is available on the Citrus County School website at www.citrus.k12.fl.us.

2012-2013 School District Calendar can be found on our school website.

Crystal River Middle School Orientation

Fifth grade students will be attending Middle School Orientation on Wednesday, May 2nd.  The students will find out what a typical sixth grade day will be like, what they will be studying, where to find key areas, who to go to for help, and what great sports and activities are available.  Introducing our students to this change in their educational life smoothes the way for a successful middle school transition.

SAEC

 (School Advisory Enhancement Council)

This group meets about once a month on the third Thursday and does not do any fundraising.  The council is made up of elected members who represent our school, parents, and community.  The SAEC provides input to the principal on the instructional needs of students.  It usually has a small budget, which the council decides how to spend within the school.  This year the council used this year’s budget to support McDonald’s Good Behavior Breakfast, 4th Grade Book Publishing, 5th Grade Rocket projects, and Staff Appreciation. Please consider being a member of this council.  If you would like to be considered for membership for the 2012-2013 school year, please fill out the following form.  Either return the form with your child or bring it to our next meeting on May 17th at 4:00 in the Media Center.

Please consider me as a candidate for the 2012-2013 School Advisory Enhancement Council (SAEC).

I am able to attend monthly meetings.

2012-2013 Out of Zone Requests

Special Attendance Request Forms will be used for the 2012-2013 School Year for all grade levels. Out of zone waivers are only valid for the current school year. We are looking very closely at our class size that is regulated by the state.  Our school is approved for 641 student stations. The district will consider each request on a case-by-case basis.

Letters and new forms were sent home with every student who is currently attending our school on a special attendance waiver and may want to attend CRPS next year.  Please return forms as soon as possible so that we can submit them to district for approval and be processed.
