Community
Citrus County is a rapidly growing community of 141,416 residents located on the west coast of central Florida. The economy is primarily based on electrical utilities, the educational system, health care, law enforcement, and hospitality services. Lecanto High School is located on a 160 acre tract of woodland, and provides services for several small communities and rural areas populated by people from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. |
School Year
Lecanto High School utilizes a modified 4 x 4 block schedule. The school year is divided into two 18-week terms or four 9-week quarters.
Some classes are offered on an alternate A/B day schedule. For the A/B classes, grades are awarded and credits earned every 18 weeks. The A/B courses continue for 36 weeks. |

Lecanto High School
Founded in 1984, Lecanto High School is the newest and largest secondary school in the district. Lecanto High School became an authorized International Baccalaureate World School in the 2008-2009 school year. Lecanto High also offers the Lecanto School of Art, a selective program for students who want to pursue a career in the visual arts. |
Requirements
Students may pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in accordance with the curriculum offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Economics-Micro, English Language, English Literature, European History, French Language, Physics C: Mechanics, Psychology, Spanish Language, Statistics, Studio Art-Drawing, Studio Art-2D Design, US Government & Politics, US History and World History. Other AP classes are available through the Florida Virtual School. Dual Enrollment courses are available through Central Florida Community College at the Citrus Campus in Lecanto. |
GPA
Unweighted GPA is calculated using the 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA is calculated using the 4.0 scale plus an additional point for every grade of C or better in any Pre-IB, IB, AP, Honors or dual enrollment class.

Accelerated
International Baccalaureate students must meet the Diploma requirements set by IBO. Students in the class of 2010 must earn 24 credits minimum, including 4 credits in English, 3 mathematics, including algebra, 4 social studies (including world geography), ½ personal fitness, 1/2 physical education, ½ health, 1 practical/fine art. The classes of 2011 and thereafter will have to have 4 math and 1 fine art. |
CREDIT
Awarded at the rate of ½ credit per quarter per class with grades of D or better for block schedule classes. Awarded at the rate of ½ credit per semester for year-long classes taught on the alternate day schedule. |

Lecanto High School Enrollment & Population
September 2009: 1,801
With a current enrollment of 1801 our student population is 81.1% White, 6.4% Hispanic, 5.4% Black 3.0% Asian, 0.4% American Indian, and 3.7% Multiracial. The male to female ration is 49/51. English Language Learners (ELL) compose 2.0% of the population. Additionally, an estimated 40% of the student population receives free or reduced lunch.
Lecanto’s faculty of 109 includes 100 teachers, five counselors, one testing coordinator, one media specialist, one technology specialist, and one reading coach. Forty-six percent of the faculty have over 15 years of experience, 29% have 6-14 years, 20% have 1-5 years, and 5% are first-year teachers. Ninety-six percent are highly qualified, 45% hold advanced degrees, and 5% have earned National Board Certification.
Each guidance counselor is assigned students from all grade levels, 9-12. Students remain with the same counselor throughout their tenure in high school. Students are assigned to homerooms, and homerooms are assigned to counselors.
