LECANTO SCHOOL OF ART 2/11
@ Lecanto High School
Overview of the LSA Program
Lecanto School of Art is a program designed especially for students with a high interest in the area of the visual arts. Every year, twenty-five eighth grade students are selected from all 4 of Citrus County Middle Schools through auditions. The audition process includes a written application, assigned drawings, a review of the student's portfolio (most recent work), and a personal interview with the Director of LSA.
Lecanto High School is now an IB World School (International Baccalaureate) and incoming LSA students can also apply to the IB Program. It is possible to participate in both.
This program strives to develop a responsible, skilled, and competitive artist. If there are indications that the student has discipline problems, or is habitually absent or tardy, they cannot be taught and cannot be accepted into this program. Once accepted, if any of these problems appear, the student can be dropped from the program at the next convenient interval in the Term. Students who have been granted an Out-of-Zone waiver, will lose their waiver if they are dropped from the program and therefore, will have to enroll in the school for which they are zoned.
Each class will be grouped together for homeroom, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, and for art classes, but each student in the class will be scheduled separately for their appropriate academic classes.
Lecanto School of Art began in 1997 and has graduated over 150 students many of which received offers for art scholarships worth a combined total of over one million dollars. LSA graduates have attended or are attending schools such as The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Alfred University in NY, Parsons School of Art & Design in NYC, The Art Institute of San Francisco in California, Columbus College of Art in Ohio, the Art Institute of Ft.
