This is the latest concerning Citrus County Schools and Hurricane Dorian:

The Citrus County School District has been in constant contact with the Citrus County Emergency Operations Center concerning this storm. Superintendent Sam Himmel met with the policy group Friday morning which includes several county officials. The latest forecast shows the storm has decreased in speed and is still several days away from impacting Florida.

Based on guidance from county emergency management, all schools will be CLOSED Tuesday, September 3rd. This includes all extra-curricular activities that may be scheduled for Monday AND Tuesday.

Please remember, even if our area gets minimal effects from the storm, our school staff and facilities play a vital role in supporting our community. Our schools are being used as shelters and our employees coordinate and manage the shelters.

We will continue to monitor the storm and keep you updated with the latest information concerning school closures. We encourage all our families and employees to take all necessary precautions at their homes and plan for the possible effects of Hurricane Dorian.

You can stay up to date with the latest information regarding school closures on our district’s Facebook and Twitter pages and on our website,

We are working with local Emergency Management officials and closely watching the path of Hurricane Dorian. All extra curricular activities are on schedule as planned for Friday.

The district will send messages to parents by phone as well as post updates on and our social media sites regarding any impact on school operations.

Citrus County Schools families and staff should review their personal preparedness plan and supplies now to ensure readiness for the potential effects of this storm.
