(Please use the links on the left to learn about  each of the strands we will cover throughout the year.  Topics and background information are also provided for each chapter in a strand.)

Our science curriculum is published by National Geographic. It provides many opportunities for students to develop and maintain the essential skills that form the basis for scientific inquiry. These skills are obtained through: Practice, Structured and Guided Inquiry, and Independent Inquiry.

Our science program is based on the following principles of scientific literacy:
* All children can investigate and learn science concepts and can experience success in science
* Children must develop knowledge of and the ability to use the tools, skills, and methods of scientific inquiry
* While engaged in the study of science, children should have the opportunity to build success in other curricular areas.
* Children's competence in the concepts and processed of science should be assessed through a variety of tools that are consistent, authentic, and fair.
* Children experience success in science when they develop age-appropriate knowledge and understanding of the life, earth, and physical sciences and when they learn about the history and nature of science.
* Science instruction should be differentiated so that all learners can experience success through instruction that is appropriate to their needs.
