J. Murray & Alma B. Davis Heritage Site

Welcome to the J. Murray and Alma B. Davis Heritage Site here in Lecanto. Murray and Alma first met in 1921 at the county fair held on this property and got married the following year. They were married for fifty years and raised their five children in a nearby house. Murray served as the postmaster of Lecanto for thirty three years from 1929 – 1962.

He farmed and raised livestock as well. Murray also operated a general store in the same building the post office was located. He closed the store in 1952 and moved the post office next door where it remained until 1969.

This heritage site donated by the Davis family to the Citrus County Historical Society, allows you to explore what was once a thriving community and the first county fairgrounds.
