During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Citrus County School Board, Superintendent Sam Himmel had the opportunity to recognize Director of Special Academic Programs, Darrick Buettner, for his recent award from the Aaron A. Weaver Chapter 776 MOPH.
Back in early August, during the Purple Heart Anniversary Breakfast hosted by the Aaron A. Weaver Chapter, Chapter 776 MOPH Commander Richard Hunt and MOPH Adjutant Curt Ebitz surprised Mr. Buettner and bestowed upon him the Honorary Life Membership Award. This award, which is incredibly rare and has only been given to three individuals in the chapter's history, was a testament to Darrick's dedication to preserving the proud legacy of the Purple Heart and his unwavering support of Chapter 776.
Superintendent Himmel wanted to make sure Darrick was recognized publicly by the school board and his peers for this prestigious honor. Mr. Buettner’s family, including his wife, daughter and both his parents were in attendance this afternoon, along with both Commander Hunt and Colonel Ebitz.
We thank Darrick Buettner for his steadfast commitment to our Veterans and all of the military programs we have in our schools. We are so fortunate to have him as part of our team at the Citrus County School District!
