As a parent myself, I understand that nothing is more important than the safety of our children. Ensuring our schools remain a safe place for learning, growth and connection is a responsibility our police department places as its highest priority. We understand that sending your children to school each day requires trust in our ability to provide a safe learning environment.
The Police Department works to build partnerships with school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, and members within the community to ensure we uphold that trust and provide a safe and secure environment. We are committed to putting in proactive measures, which include:
- We conduct regular safety drills for situations such as fire, severe weather and lockdowns. These drills ensure students and staff are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively.
- Increased presence of security personnel to include our School Resource Offices (SRO’s) and School Guardians.
- Annual comprehensive risk assessments of each school.
- Training for staff members, students, and parents/guardians on how to recognize and report concerning behavior or threats.
- Controlled entry points, visitor screening and security cameras are in place to monitor our campuses.
- In the event of an emergency, we are committed to keeping you informed through timely notifications via email, text, phone calls and/or social media.
I also ask for your partnership in maintaining school safety alongside our department. Please remind your children about the importance of reporting anything unusual or concerning to a school administrator, law enforcement or a trusted adult. Your awareness and involvement play a crucial role in creating and maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
Thank you for your partnership and trust as we work to protect our community’s most valuable members- our children.
