The Heh? Podcast: Branching the worlds of Educators and Students

At Crystal River High School, AP English Teacher Mark Heidenreich has collaborated with his esteemed students: Elizabeth Fiore, Jonalyn King, Emiko Lehtinen, Madison Webster, and others to create a podcast that closes the gap between teachers and students. The Heh? Podcast, sponsored by after-school Writing Club, is a silly yet educational show fea-turing teacher and student guests that can be found on Spotify and YouTube by searching “The Heh? Podcast”.

Each episode is led by Mr. Heidenreich and student co-hosts, where they ask their guests questions pertaining to their career, education, or extracurricular activities. The questions posed to guests are heavily derived from the club's sponsor–Writing Club. During club meet-ings the members collectively devise questions tailored to fit the interests, experiences, and activities of upcoming guests. The podcast was initially created out of Writing Club looking for a new but adventurous outlet to display their literary skills–by putting them into a practi-cal setting. Since the start of the podcast, students are able to express their creativity through fun, student-led segments and questions that relate to the current state of educa-tion from multiple perspectives.

The Heh? Podcast featured their first guest–Rachel Miller, an enthusiastic and passionate English teacher at CRHS–in October of 2024. Mrs. Millers’ bubbly attitude encouraged the co-hosts to openly express their ideas and creativity while being “on mic.” Since then the podcast has featured a number of beloved teachers, such as: Mr. Hutchinson, Mrs. Price, Mr. Hamilton, Mr. McNeill, Mrs. Leazott, and Mr. Walker. The podcast most recently starred the 2026 Citrus County Teacher of the year, Autumn Crabtree. Similarly, the podcast also featured Karl Sieg, a legendary CRHS teacher who has won CRHS Teacher of the Year three times.

These amazing guests participate in a variety of podcast segments led by two Golden Citrus Scholars: Emiko Lehtinen and Madison Webster. Emiko guides the guests through a “Movie Marathon” where she reviews interesting facts of the guest’s favorite movie and leads dis-cussion of films that relate to modern day issues–or teaching. Madison leads Controversial Opinion Of the Day, known as “COOTD.” This section of the podcast includes educational topics and fun topics that often make the guests question their standings on real-world or unique topics. Other segments include Explain the Slang, Wouldja Rather, and Rapid-fire Questions that close out each episode. Collectively, the co-hosts all agree that being able to speak on the podcast allows them to express their creativity, feel heard, and lighten their day by hearing the teachers' perspectives and their contagious laughter.
