AVID Field Trip to Santa Fe

Written by Anastasia Gonzalez

The Class of 2027 AVID students went on a field trip to explore the Santa Fe College in Gainesville on March 20. The group of students toured the Health and Sciences Center, as well as the Teaching Zoo.

Students were educated on the different pathways that can be taken when accepted into the college. The most popular choice being two years at Santa Fe College, then transferring to the University of Florida for the next two years to extend their learning in any career field they choose.

The students enjoyed touring the different labs and classrooms of the Health and Sciences Center, and see what the college had to offer.

After lunch break, students were even treated to some ice cream from a local food truck!

The trip to the Teaching Zoo was the finale of the college tour, and was by far one of the most exciting parts. On campus students who want to pursue any field that deals with animals learn to take care of these animals as a part of their class. The AVID students got to take pictures and watch the animals interact with one another while on a scavenger hunt assigned by their teacher.

Overall, the trip to Santa Fe was a success. This experience brought smiles to faces and peaked interests for students to pursue the school.

CHS Kindness Week

With big smiles and bright colors Citrus High School is set to celebrate its annual kindness week from April 8th through the 12th.
This weeklong event encourages students and staff to spread positivity through themed dress up days and acts of kindness. Each of these days offers a great opportunity to showcase the kindness and positivity we have here at CHS and highlight how important it is at our school.
Monday starts off with “Make a Friend” day where students can wear T shirts or outfits that represent their hobbies or interests. “I’m looking forward to seeing what different kinds of outfits people pull off when it comes to their interests” (Student Alex Bolles).

Giving students the chance to spark new friendships and interact with new people over shared interests and passions. Tuesday is our twin day with “Double the Kindness” encouraging us all to pair up and coordinate outfits, picking up each other’s styles. “I’m excited to match cute outfits with my friends” (Student Brinlee Ball) Midweek Wednesday becomes camouflage, “We don’t hide from kindness” a reminder to not always be a follower but to stand out by caring for others when in need.

Thursday with neon outfits lighting up the halls showing our “radiance” when it comes to our impact on kind gestures. And the final day of kindness week “feel Good Friday” calls for school spirit attire! Showing our school spirit and pride.
“This is a great way to bring everyone together and spread positivity around our school” (Student Kamari Harris).
Not only are we just dressing up for the support of positivity but we also have our “ acts of kindness throughout the week” which means each day is good deed, Student Brayden Schloss shares that he’s   “excited to be more positive throughout my day, for myself and others around”  Monday is “kindness bingo”  where we create bingo cards with various acts of kindness and mark off each act we complete!
Tuesday is “kindness rocks” where the members of Citrus High’s student government will paint and hide rocks, students who find the kindness rocks get to earn a prize!

Wednesday is “welcoming Wednesday” where we write a positive note to an 8th grader who is going into high school.
Thursday is “thankful Thursday” writing a thank you note to a staff member who has positively impacted us this year.
“It’s nice having a chance to take time to appreciate the staff and teachers for the things they do for us” (Sydney Rodgers).
Friday is “feel Good Friday” where staff with play tunes for students while they walk to class.
CHS Teacher Mrs. Savoie shares that “seeing students dressed up with positive energy creates a great impact on our school”.
Kindness week at Citrus High school is an important celebration of compassion and unity, from dressing up in our camo wear, to twinning with our besties each of these days gives us a chance to come together as a community and make this week one to remember!
