What a way to kick off the week - a reopening celebration at Crystal River Middle School (CRMS). Another step towards normalcy as students, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate the grand reopening of the schoolโs gymnasium. Following significant damage from Hurricane Hellene in September 2024, the gym has been beautifully restored, complete with a brand-new floor and new LED lights.
It was a special morning as students, staff, district leaders, school board members, community partners, and Superintendent Dr. Scott Hebert came together to celebrate the reopening of the Bearcat gym!
As CRMS staff stepped into the newly renovated space, they were welcomed by the energy of the Bearcat cheerleaders and the Bearcat Prep Band. Inside, powerful before-and-after photos told the story of recoveryโfrom the damage left by the hurricane to todayโs celebration.
Both Dr. Hebert and Principal Sean Furniss addressed the crowd, recognizing the countless individuals who made this day possibleโfrom maintenance, code compliance and construction crews to school administrators and generous community partners. โThis moment is a testament to the strength and resilience of our Bearcat family and Crystal River community,โ Dr. Hebert said.
Special thanks to Crystal River Mayor Joe Meek for joining us to celebrate.
To wrap up the celebration, members of the boysโ and girlsโ basketball teams stood proudly on the brand-new gym floor. Students and staff joined in to take the first shots, officially christening the Bearcat gym!
With the bold CR and Bearcat logos shining once again, the morning was definitely filled with pride and hope!
Awesome day at Bearcat country!
