Citrus County Schools is proud to announce Lita Stanton, a math teacher at Citrus High School, as Citrus County Schools “Teacher of the Year” for 2024 and Angelica Lefevers, an ESE paraprofessional at Lecanto Primary, as “School-Related Employee of the Year” for 2023.

Superintendent Sam Himmel announced both winners among their families and peers during the annual Galaxy of the Stars event, held at the College of Central Florida, hosted by the Citrus County Education Foundation on Monday, December 5th. Both were chosen from a group of finalists who were all recognized during the ceremony.

Mrs. Stanton has been teaching for the Citrus County School District for 12 years. Lita’s academic, social, and technological expertise is critical in her position as she manages multiple tasks at any given moment. She consistently builds strong relationships with her students, their families, and colleagues, allowing her to positively impact the school climate and student achievement. Citrus High Principal Mark Kahler says, "Her rich background in mathematical strategies helps differentiate instruction for her students. Explicit instruction, developing relationships, and student-to-student collaboration are the cornerstones of her teaching."

Ms. Lefevers has been making a difference in the lives of young students in Citrus County for the past five years and currently serves as an ESE paraprofessional, where she works with some of the most challenging students on campus. She is caring and consistent when providing communication to families as needed.

Debi Collins, ESE Staffing Specialist, says, "Angelica always maintains a positive outlook. There is rarely a time that Angelica is without a smile or a kind word. She works hard, loves her job, and is an amazing coworker."

We would like to thank the Citrus County Education Foundation for its continuous support of this event. It’s because of the foundation and its sponsors that this event is fully funded by the foundation at no cost to the district.

We also want to thank Jenkins Auto Group for their very generous gifts to both winners.

We are so proud that these two wonderful employees will be representing the Citrus County School District!
