School grades

The Florida Department of Education has released District and School Grades revealing that the Citrus County School District remains a “B” district continuing our trend in having high achieving schools with no “D” or “F” schools.  This is the 15th consecutive year that our district has been designated an “A” or “B” District with our schools continuing to see student success and achievement.

District and School Grades are calculated annually based on up to 11 components, including student achievement and learning gains on statewide standardized assessments.  It also factors in graduation rate and percent of students successful in middle and high school accelerated courses.  School grades provide parents and the general public an easily understandable way to measure the performance of a school and understand how well each school is serving its students.

The chart below provides the grades for each Citrus County School.

Inverness Primary School improved by two grade levels from its “C” score in 2018, to an “A” score for 2019.  Both Citrus High School and Forest Ridge Elementary improved their scores moving from a “C” score to a “B”.

Many of our schools made significant gains and we are seeing progress in several academic areas:

  • Achievement & learning gains increased in English/Language Arts (ELA)
  • Achievement increased in Science and Social Studies
  • District and School Graduation Rates increased

“As always, I am proud of our teachers, administrators and staff,” said Superintendent Sam Himmel.  “I know how hard they work to see their students succeed.  The growth that Inverness Primary School has shown is truly remarkable.  The supplemental curriculum piloted at IPS this year will be extended throughout the district for the 2019-2020 school year.  We are anticipating very good results.  Hard work pays off and this is truly a testament to not only teachers and staff, but the support we have from our families and community partners.”

Superintendent Himmel stresses there is still more work to be done.  Looking forward, the district will continue to analyze the data to determine what schools need some extra support.  The district’s goal is to provide needed resources for schools to ensure all students demonstrate learning gains and continue to experience success. School leadership teams are reviewing their long-term goals and making sure they continue with academic success.

A school grade is not available for Crystal River High School at this time.
