The Citrus County School District and local law enforcement officials want to remind parents and guardians about the serious consequences of posting false information and rumors on social media concerning potential threats to schools. Additionally, we want to ensure that parents and guardians are familiar with the FortifyFL reporting app.
Our local law enforcement and school administrators are always monitoring social media posts and taking appropriate action to maintain the safety of our students and staff. If you or your child encounters a threat on social media or notices any suspicious activity, please refrain from reposting the information and immediately contact a school administrator or law enforcement.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We take every potential threat seriously and work closely with law enforcement to quickly assess the credibility of any reports we receive. The sharing of unverified social media posts, even with good intentions, can cause significant disruption and unnecessary fear within our school community.
We encourage all students and families to follow a simple yet crucial principle: if you see something, say something. Reporting potential threats directly to school administrators or law enforcement is the proper and safest approach. You can also use our anonymous reporting application, FortifyFL, to share information.
We remind everyone that making a threat against a school, students, or staff is not a joke and will not be tolerated. Our district enforces a zero-tolerance policy regarding threats and the dissemination of false threats. Every case is taken seriously, thoroughly investigated, and subject to consequences, which may include disciplinary action in line with our Student Code of Conduct or legal action, including arrest, as determined by law enforcement.
Please take a moment to review our “Threats and False Threats” newsletter and discuss with your child the importance of reporting concerns to an adult instead of sharing them on social media. Together, we can ensure our schools remain safe environments where students can focus on learning and grow without unnecessary fear or disruption.
