Citrus Schools Celebrates National School Lunch Week

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, which serves nearly 30 million children nation-wide, the Citrus County School District is celebrating National School Lunch Week from October 9-13, 2023. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Level Up with School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to ensure student success both in and out of the classroom.

Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at Citrus schools. For example, breakfast and lunch consists of more fruit, vegetables, and whole grains. Foods must meet several nutrient requirements such as calorie limits, sodium limits, fat limits and sugar limits. To read more about exactly what we offer, visit https://tinyurl.com/3hu5w97m.

“Parents have the peace of mind of knowing there is a healthy, balanced meal available for their children,” says Superintendent Sam Himmel. “Nourished students are engaged learners, and we want to make sure we’re doing everything possible for our students to be successful!”

The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 77 years. All students can receive free breakfast and lunch all year long.
