Athletes Recognized for their State Performances

During March’s regular School Board meeting, three student athletes were recognized for their athletic accomplishments!

Student Athlete Ave Rueck of Lecanto High School was recognized for her weightlifting accomplishments. Ava won the individual 110-pound weight class division in the Traditional Lifting category to earn the Title of State Champion. She also placed second overall in the Olympic Lifting 110-pound category. Ava was the only State Champion Girls Weightlifter for Citrus County this season.

For her career, Ava has earned 4 State Medals which ties her for the most decorated Weightlifter in Citrus County History. By the way she is only a junior! With her win, she continues the strong showing for Lecanto Weightlifting, as she is the 3rd State Champion in the last four years.

Student Athlete Tim Gray of Crystal River High School was recognized for his wrestling accomplishments. Tim Gray recently claimed the Heavyweight division Title of State Champion. The Senior became the first Pirate to claim wrestling State Champion in 31 years. Tim was the only State Champion Wrestler for Citrus County this season.

Tim record was an outstanding 55 – 1 for his senior season. For his career Tim, was a 3-time state qualifier. He also placed 3rd overall in his junior season. Some of his accolades on the mat include 3-time regional finalist, 1-time regional champion, 4-time district finalist and 3-time district champion and 4-time NHSCA All American. Tim’s overall record is an amazing 177 – 27, which is a CRHS school record.

Our next student to recognize is student Athlete Lilyana Rodriguez of Crystal River High School for her wrestling accomplishments. Lilyana advanced to the Girls State Wrestling Championship. By advancing to the state tournament, Lilyana became the first girl in Citrus County History to reach the State meet. She has become a trailblazer in the sport of Girls Wrestling which is growing exponentially across the State of Florida. At the Regional tournament, she went 4-2 overall, place 4
th and advanced to the state tournament.

Congratulations to Lilyana Rodriguez on your well-deserved recognition as the first Citrus County Girl Wrestler to make it to the State Tournament.

Also, in attendance was State Qualifier from Crystal River High School, Mason Cosgrove. Mason embodies the word teammate as he was a huge supporter of his teammates throughout the season.

Besides being recognized by the Citrus County School District, these three student athletes also received a signed Gold Seal Letter from Senator Ingoglia, congratulating them on their accomplishments this season.
