WTC Hosts Citrus County Leaders at Summit

The first week of October, the Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) joined together with representatives from the Citrus County School Board (CCSB), City of Crystal River, City of Inverness, and Citrus County Sheriff’s Office to discuss, plan, and prioritize mutual programs, projects, and issues facing Citrus County while looking to the future. Withlacoochee Technical College (WTC) graciously hosted the meeting at their facility in Inverness and provided attendees with lunches prepared by students of their culinary program.

BOCC Chairman Ruthie Davis Schlabach and CCSB Chairman Doug Dodd led group discussion on priority initiatives, including public safety, economic development, and transportation planning.

“As the county develops, we cannot lose focus of what sets us apart,” said Schlabach.

“It’s always a good idea when local leaders sit together brainstorming ideas and get out of our silos,” says Superintendent of Schools, Sam Himmel. “When one big decision is made, it eventually impacts everyone else.”
